BIG BLUE ALUMNI
"Alumni League"
We will organize a summer league to connect the players of the past with the players of today. We will recruit alumni teams, other high school teams, and other recreational league teams to come to our gym and play against our kids each week during the month of June. The alumni league will get our players experience playing against older/stronger players and lets our alumni stay involved. We will include a varsity, junior varsity, freshman, and even a middle school all-star team possibly.
"Alumni 3-on-3 Tournament"
This is a variation of the alumni league that is less of a commitment for all involved. Instead of a once-a-week league through the summer, organize a one-day tournament in a half-court setting. This helps raise money and gets the good feelings going with your alumni.
“Tip-Off Dinner”
At the beginning of the season, we will invite our entire basketball community together for a dinner. We will preview our program with speakers while we fundraise. We will invite one of the alumni legends of our program to be a featured speaker to let them feel celebrated and say nice things about our program.
"Alumni Practice"
We will invite alumni and former players to a practice where they can participate in drills and scrimmage against our team. We will have breakfast together afterwards and invite the alumni as our personal guests to an upcoming game. We do this over Christmas break.
"Alumni Reflections"
We will invite the alumni back to speak to the team during practice throughout the season. We will have alumni share their experiences and help players realize how precious the days of being able to play for our school truly is. Our players will get a sense of pride in our community. It helps our alumni feel included in what we're doing. We will invite our alumni as special guests to our next home game.
"Banquet Awards"
We will name our end-of-season awards after legends of our program’s past. We will invite those players to the banquet, give them a free dinner, and ask them to present their awards as our special guests. This will help to create a fan for life.
“Open” Open Gyms
In the summer, spring, and fall we will have open gyms and welcome alumni to attend. These open gyms will get crowded once word spreads, but it’s great public relations for our program to engage and unite the players of the past. The bonus benefit is that our players get to compete against older, more mature players.
"Alumni Newsletter"
Another way to get our alumni involved is to keep them informed on the current team and developments through a newsletter. We will sell advertisements in the newsletter, and also promote some of the better players, teams, and coaches of the past in the newsletter. We will publish it quarterly.
