Daily Practice Schedule (see sample)
The daily practice schedule is designed to simulate the flow of a game, from the pre-game meetings through overtime.
Playing hard is the top priority; intensity development is built into the daily practice schedule by making all drills competitive against the clock or an opponent.
PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS
The following are necessary for each practice session: sneakers, socks, gym shorts, and a reversible practice jersey.
You are expected to be changed and ready to go at the start of practice. We will begin promptly as the previous practice ends or at our assigned time. DO NOT BE LATE
Make sure all injury prevention measures, such as taping and braces, have been taken prior to the start of practice.
Everyone is expected to give 100% for the entire duration of practice.
The only valid excuse for missing practice is to be absent from school unless you have cleared one of the following with your coach: a doctor’s appointment, a college or job interview, another school function such as NHS or Student Council, or a driver’s examination. Other exceptions will be made at the coach’s discretion.
Practices are carefully designed and planned, we must make maximum use of our time in the gym so you are expected to hustle to and from each drill, keep equipment picked up, pay attention, and refrain from horseplay.
Ask yourself at the end of practice: Did I give 100%? What did I do to make myself better today? My teammates? My Team?
General Practice Guidelines:
Have a practice plan every day
Focus on effort & Execution
Mix the practice plan up into three categories: defense, offense, player development.
REMAIN POSITIVE (use constructive criticism) 3 to 1 positive to negative
End practice on a “bright note”
Alternate strenuous drills with “break” drills/shooting
Be detailed: Victory is found in the details
Reward great effort (things that get rewarded get done)
As much as possible, make every drill COMPETITIVE
It’s not what you teach. It’s what you EMPHASIZE
